In 2023, well-established financial service institutions (FSIs) are aware they need to modernise their systems in order to stay relevant and ensure their survival. To be successful in the future, FSIs will need to embrace emerging technologies, remain flexible to adopt evolving business models, and put customers at the heart of their strategy.

Some organisations have a cloud first approach but have yet to deliver the promised benefits and are being left behind by more agile born in the cloud banks Transitioning employees trained on existing systems to new technologies can be just as complicated as implementing the infrastructure required for the tech, and hiring new staff with the right skillset is also proving a challenge.

Legacy systems are often expensive to transfer to the cloud. In some cases, the cost of the cloud is proven to be significantly more expensive than expected. This can make it difficult for the c-suite to see the true value of the cloud, making it harder to justify additional investments, and with the current economic headwinds this can cause leader to rethink their spending priorities.

As a result, organisations are looking for quick fixes which can solve immediate issues and show immediate value, but complicate legacy systems further and fail to deliver on the promise of a lasting change for the future.

At this event, we will bring together senior peers from across the financial services sector to discuss IT modernisation strategies, supporting both new and legacy workloads and explore the ways that FSIs can tackle the rising issue of technical debt to remain on the cutting edge.

Topics for discussion

  • What does the bank of 2030 look like and what steps should FSIs take to transform themselves into one?

  • Has the cloud delivered on the initial promise and what remedies exist when expectations have not been met, especially for core legacy applications.

  • How are FSIs responding to changing regulatory requirements, and do FinTechs have an advantage over incumbents when it comes to adapting?

  • What are the main roadblocks for established providers in keeping up with the digital disruptors, especially when it comes to retaining customers with online services?

  • How are FSIs overcoming concerns over data security and data location when it comes to moving data to the cloud?

  • What are the main challenges for FS providers in finding or building cloud-specific skills within their workforce and what alternative sources of support are available?

  • What operational steps are needed to enable firms to better leverage the potential of cloud for wide-ranging digital transformation?
