Speaker Profile: Dr Richard Gilham

Richard is an AI Supercomputing Infrastructure Specialist at the Bristol Centre for Supercomputing, part of the University of Bristol. His career-long focus has been on unlocking the power of HPC and supercomputers to deliver benefit, and at Bristol he leads on User Experience and User-Facing Services. Prior to joining Bristol in 2024, he held several positions at the Met Office culminating in leading the technical development and safeguarding of the UK’s flagship weather and climate model.

His career has provided a diverse viewpoint of the differing motivations and challenges faced in using powerful compute in life-saving operational use cases and cutting-edge research. He uses this experience to craft how users access interact with large supercomputers such as Isambard-AI, the most powerful supercomputer in the UK and 11th in the world.
