With the pandemic driving thousands of companies to shift data and operations to the cloud in a matter of weeks, many financial services institutions (FSIs) have already begun their cloud transformation plans. While some FS providers are relatively advanced in their cloud journeys, many remain weighed down by legacy architecture in an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

As a result, many financial institutions are struggling to realise the full potential of cloud technology, including its ability to modernise applications and unlock value within their data. Meanwhile, some FSIs are still struggling to develop a successful blueprint for speeding up time to market and risk losing out to cloud-native FinTechs who are more adept at meeting heightened consumer demand for seamless digital products and services. Security concerns, new regulations and staying relevant in a changing market are some of the biggest barriers to going completely serverless.  

To tackle these challenges, many organisations are exploring the ways cloud can enable a DataOps approach, where modernisation and flexibility of systems are prioritised whilst leveraging data languished in siloed systems.
