Generative AI (GenAI) promises to have a significant impact on every industry it touches, and financial services is no different. While some institutions have successfully implemented Large Language Models (LLMs), building on platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and others have automated some of their processes using advanced Machine Learning (ML), a few are yet to dip a toe into the water and run the risk of being left behind.

Key decision makers are facing pressure to jump feet first into GenAI, but some are worried that they lack the technical expertise or enough quality data to make full use of GenAI’s potential. This is before even considering the regulatory, compliance and ethical implications of this emerging area of technology, and the nascent nature of GenAI development means that professionals with the adequate skillset are in short supply.

In response to these potential barriers, many FSIs are turning to external providers, launching training schemes or hiring from outside of the financial sector in an effort to stand out.
