FinTech 50 Watchlist debuts

Bango, eToro, Fidessa, mPowa, The Currency Cloud and VocaLink are among the companies included on the FinTech 50 Watchlist. Launched by ICON Corporate Finance, Hotwire, Silicon Valley Bank and Fox Williams, this is an annual guide to the top FS tech firms in Europe.

The list is drawn up by the Watchlist Panel, consisting of representatives from the likes of Octopus Investments, Anthemis Group, Silicon Valley Bank and Celent. The panel convened at the end of 2012 to debate and select the top companies that demonstrate the potential to become a gamechanger in FinTech or the competitive staying power to continue being one.

Eddie Harding, head of FinTech at ICON Corporate Finance (and also one of the panelists), says: “The FinTech sector has enjoyed incredible growth in recent years, particularly here in Europe where a slew of new technologies and product offerings are disrupting the traditional banking models and changing the way we consume financial services. FinTech innovation is transforming financial services in a whole host of different verticals, with new businesses challenging directly for a share of the fastest evolving sectors such as mobile payments, low-latency trading, banking alternatives, Big Data analytics, ID and security and many more. As a result European FinTech companies are attracting both heavyweight corporate investors and leading venture capitalists as the markets see that FinTech firms have the potential to achieve significant multiples on exit."
