Biography:
Paul is Chairman and Founder of Vendorcom, the Cards & Payments Community. Prior to setting up Vendorcom in 2003, Paul spent over 15 years in the retail and consumer products sectors with roles in buying, production control and logistics management. Subsequent consulting, marketing and business development roles with KPMG Management Consulting and Oracle Corporation, have added skills in IT implementation and project management. Paul is passionate about cards and payments, particularly promoting innovation, ensuring that thought leadership is recognised, and that all stakeholders in the industry have access to authoritative information on new developments, standards and regulation. Paul is recognised for his independence, authority and pragmatism in dealing with the wide range of issues facing the retail and payments industries and is a regular contributor to industry journals and national press on topical issues. He has chaired and spoken at many cards and payments conferences and generally facilitates knowledge sharing and resolution of challenging issues in the industry.
Paul is responsible for taking Vendorcom in the direction that both members and the industry as a whole will benefit from. This requires him to be aware of all of the pressing industry issues and helping predict where the industry is, or could, be heading. Ensuring Vendorcom is recognised as the authoritative source of cards and payments information right across Europe is an ongoing part of his work.

Payments evolution over the next five years: challenges and opportunities
Topic Synopsis:
An overview of the history of payments and communications and how they are intertwined. Have payments kept up with the technological change seen in the field of communications? What are the challenges and opportunities over the next five years for the payments industry? Tim Decker, HSBC’s European Head of E-Channels, will look to answer these questions and delve into many more in the opening session of the conference.
Biography:
Tim Decker has worked in the Cash Management business for over 10 years in a variety of senior technical and business roles at Citibank, JPMorgan and HSBC. Prior to working in Banking, Tim served in the Army and also worked in IT for Lloyd’s of London and Kent County Council. Tim is currently the European Head of e-Channels for HSBC’s Payments and Cash Management business, with responsibility for electronic banking products used by corporate customers. Tim has an MBA from Henley Business School and a Certificate in International Cash Management from the Association of Corporate Treasurers.
Carl-Olav Scheible, UK Managing Director, PayPal
Payments in a multi-channel world
Topic Synopsis:
In this morning session, Carl Scheible, Managing Director of PayPal UK, will look to address the current innovations within the retail and payments industries; with a particular focus on multichannel retailing, and the role of online payments therein. Carl will also touch upon the impact of social media’s explosion in recent years and the payment opportunities that are presented, whilst also touching on the mobile channel, and PayPal’s “Wallet in the Cloud” service.
Biography:
Carl was appointed as Managing Director of PayPal UK in June 2007 having previously held the position of Head of Merchant Services for PayPal Europe. His new position as head of PayPal UK is an acknowledgement of his knowledge and successful positions undertaken at PayPal over the last few years. Carl has moved quickly through the ranks at PayPal after joining in 2004. Originally, Carl was responsible for the strategy, growth and financial performance of PayPal's Merchant
Services business which provides payment solutions to small and large e-Commerce merchants. Prior to running Merchant Services, Carl was General Manager and responsible for PayPal's operations in six European countries. Prior to joining PayPal in mid-2004, Carl spent three years in tech investments with b-bp/Investor, a €750 million European tech fund and before that was Head of Operations with Smarterwork, a London based internet start-up. Carl was also Vice President at
American Express and started his career with The Boston Consulting Group.

Biography:
Mark McMurtrie is Marketing Director at S1 for their European, Middle-East, African and Asia-Pacific regions. He has 25 years payments industry experience and during his successful career has worked as Marketing Director at several leading suppliers including: The Logic Group, VeriFone and Hypercom as well as in product management for NCR. He is a frequent speaker at S1 events and industry conferences. He has been involved in card payment projects for many of the world’s largest banks, retailers, petroleum companies, transaction processors and telecommunication providers. Mark’s payments experience is diverse and he has travelled to all corners of the globe explaining the opportunities available from card payments and modern payment platforms. He assisted the UK PMO in the introduction of EMV Chip and PIN technology and has been a long term advocate of the need to strengthen data security including PCI DSS support.

Contactless is an overhyped and underused technology of little relevance to anybody and of absolutely no use to the 70 per cent plus of the world’s population who are struggling to put food in their mouths. Simon Austin will explode the myths of both the usefulness and cost-effectiveness of Contactless, pointing instead to enduring popularity and value of cash.
Biography:
Simon Austin is the Commercial & Finance Director of Bank Machine, the company that installed the first independent ATM in the UK in 1998. Bank Machine is owned by Cardtronics Inc, a Nasdaq-quoted US corporation and the World’s largest Independent ATM Operator. With over 20 years finance and commercial experience predominantly with pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, Simon has been part of the management team with Bank Machine for eight and a half years and made a significant contribution to revenue and profit increasing by 400 per cent during the period of his tenure.

In this presentation, John France of eWise Payo will talk about the various retail payment processes that exist today, the issues that each of these systems have and how, through advances in technology, eWise are now able to provide a single solution that actually does benefit all parties. John will then provide a demo of the solution in action, covering all retail payment scenarios; with Q&A from the audience at the conclusion of his presentation.
Biography:
John France is Managing Director at eWise payo. In his role, he is responsible for developing the eWise payments business in Europe with an initial focus on launching eWise payo in the UK.
He has a strong career history in the payments industry. Prior to joining eWise, John was head of processing sales for Visa Europe, where his exposure across the entire payments value chain enabled him to understand the various stakeholder models and value propositions associated with B2C and B2B payments.
John has also held senior sales roles with ACI Worldwide and Nomad.

Biography:
Richard White is a senior level marketer in Lloyds Banking Group and has worked for the group for the last 12 years (including nine years with Bank of Scotland). He has expertise in brand management, product and proposition development, marketing metrics and digital marketing. He was instrumental in the recent rebrand of the Corporate Markets business to Lloyds Bank and the launch of their new content driven website. He was also involved in Bank of Scotland’s entrepreneur initiatives.

Ben is a Director at Simon-Kucher & Partners, the global Strategy and Marketing Consultancy. His experience in the payments industry extends across the UK, Europe, Asia and US where he has developed new products, defined market entry strategies and designed strategic pricing models. Regarding the cards market, he has worked across the value chain with clients that include issuers, acquirers, schemes and processors. He has also worked with non-card focused payments businesses as well as supporting national-level strategy development. He actively researches the market to monitor developments with everyday payment instruments. His research on contactless payments was published in FStech this year.

Biography:
Mark Silverstein is the Deputy Head of Legal - Global Transactions Services (GTS) for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Citi. Mark has been with Citi since 1999 and was appointed to his current role in September 2004. Mark has a senior leadership role for the full range of GTS businesses, with a particular focus on complex outsourcing and public sector transactions, regulatory developments, and payment and settlement systems risk. Mark has also had a key role in managing Citi’s response to the credit crisis. Prior to joining Citi, Mark was in private practice in London for twelve years with Hogan Lovells, a leading global law firm. Mark specialised in insolvency and debt restructuring during his time with Hogan Lovells. Mark holds a BA from the University of Kent at Canterbury and a JD. from Georgetown University in Washington DC. Mark qualified as an English lawyer in July 1992.

Appointed Head of Merchant Services, Cardnet Merchant Services , two months ago. Responsible for the Sales and Relationship Division, Strategy, Planning, Product Management and Proposition Development of the Transaction Banking Merchant Services business. Dave has been with the Cardnet business for just over seven years and prior to the current role was the Sales and Relationship Director for Cardnet, responsible for all new sales and relationship management activity, managing a division of 110 people. Prior to joining LTSB, was with Barclays for just under 17 years, the last 10 within their acquiring business. In Barclaycard he headed the International Acquiring Team.
Rob Brown, Group EPoS Systems Manager, Clinton Cards

Biography:
Rob has been working in the retail sector for 15 years, 10 of those years having been spent working with retail IT systems. His expertise focuses strongly on implementing and project managing EPoS systems and IT business systems which interact with EPoS, Card Payment systems, NFC technology and, more recently, mobile technology. Rob has 13 years of management experience, which ranges from managing store staff to engineering staff, though he still gets his hands dirty with engineering when time allows. He is a Linux professional, using this skill to benefit the day-to-day running of his job at Clinton Cards and his open community work outside of the retail business. Clinton Cards has been home to Rob for the last 11 years and he has thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the IT team to develop the systems used in today’s retail technology infrastructure.

Jeremy King, European Director for the PCI-Security Standards Council, will discuss the need to establish a security lifecycle for the payments environment, providing guidance and tips on how to successfully implement this. Jeremy will then go on to discuss how all the updates to the standards and information on where the Council is going in the near future can simplify compliance while strengthening your company’s security posture, as the landscape of payments changes and new payment technologies emerge on the horizon.
Biography:
Jeremy King, the European Director of the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) leads the Council’s efforts in increasing adoption and awareness of the PCI security standards in the European region. In this role, Jeremy works closely with the Council’s General Manager and representatives of its policy-setting executive committee from American Express, Discover, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa, Inc. His chief responsibilities include gathering feedback from the European merchant and vendor community, coordinating research and analysis of PCI SCC managed standards in European markets, and driving education efforts and Council membership recruitment through active involvement in local and regional events, industry conferences, and meetings with key stakeholders. He also serves as a resource for Approved Scanning Vendors (ASVs), Qualified Security Assessors (QSAs), Internal Security Assessors (ISAs), PCI Forensic Investigators (PFIs), and related staff in supporting regional training, certification, and testing programs.
Jeremy brings extensive experience in the payment card security and high-tech industries to the PCI Security Standards Council. Most recently, he served as Vice President for the Payment System Integrity Group at MasterCard Worldwide, where he played an integral role in developing payment terminal and chip card security programs. He also spent more than 14 years working in the UK semiconductor industry and has a strong background in payments technologies, including contactless card, encryption, and mobile payment technologies.

We seek structural solutions to multi-faceted problems, and compliance is certainly a many-faced beast. Where does PCI stand alongside other standards in a world of competing regulation, and how should we address it as a global group of companies?
Biography:
Philip Hellyer is the Enterprise Architecture Group Lead for Best Buy Europe (BBE), leading a team of Enterprise Architects within the Business Change Function. He has worked in many industry verticals, both public and private sector.
Philip has designed and implemented payment systems for several of the companies that make up the Carphone Warehouse Group. He worked in insurance during the onset of FSA regulation, and has been closely involved throughout BBE's current PCI programme.
With a formal background in accountancy and systems, Philip walks on both 'sides' of the strategy fence, and is both deeply technical and deeply business-oriented. As an Enterprise Architect, he sits between IT and the rest of the business, like a kind of strategic interpreter.

Biography:
Mathieu Gorge is an international authority on IT security, an expert on key legal aspects of corporate security, their laws and frameworks. His company, VigiTrust, designs cloud based educational programs, provides security assessments, credit card security compliance packages and corporate governance solutions. VigiTrust operates in the Europe, US and Ireland and services clients including aggregators and merchants. Mathieu is a regular speaker at international security conferences across Europe and works closely with the PCI Council, East West Institute and ANSI, ISACA and ENISA
Grant Wyatt, Divisional General Manager, S1

Biography:
Grant Wyatt is General Manager for S1’s European Payments division, a position he has held since 2007. He is responsible for the sales, development, implementation, and customer services for S1 payments solutions across more than 20 European countries. Grant moved to the UK from South Africa in 1999 and is based at the company’s Chertsey office. He has worked for S1 for 16 years and was one of the company’s earliest payments division employees. During his successful career with S1, Grant has held many roles, including account manager, direct sales, and SVP delivery Europe and the Middle East. Grant has a BSc (Hons) First Class degree in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town (South Africa).

Biography:
Giles has been working at HSBC for over five years, in different areas ranging from leading in-house development teams on the bank's main retail and business banking platform, www.hsbc.co.uk to global transaction banking, being principally responsible for both additive and transformational mobile payment strategies. Giles' additive focus centres on leveraging key functions from HSBCnet, the Group’s global internet banking platform for commercial and corporate customers and bringing these to mobile. In addition, Giles is researching how the mobile medium can help the bank and its clients transform payment and collection processes in both developed and undeveloped countries. Giles has knowledge across the mobile environment from experience working with technology vendors and network operators in the industry or from direct working relationships with a variety of different corporate clients across industries from pharmaceuticals to insurance. Prior to working at HSBC, Giles held a variety of positions in financial services, initially at Australian Mutual Provident, and later at Interactive Investor International where he managed the group's internal IT infrastructure. Subsequent to this he worked for IMO Precision Controls, a manufacturing and distribution company where he was responsible for introducing mobile technology to improve sales performance within the organisation.

Biography:
Alan Moss is Vice President of Marketing for the Western Europe, Middle East and Africa region at VeriFone. He has worked for more than thirteen years in the payment terminal business, in a variety of roles from product marketing to international business development. Prior to working for VeriFone (formerly for Hypercom and Thales e-Transactions), Alan worked in international sales for De La Rue’s security holographics and security print divisions. At VeriFone, Alan is responsible for product and strategic marketing in the company’s WEMEA region, and as such, has considerable experience of the card payment industry in diverse international markets. In addition to his position with VeriFone, Alan is also Chairman of the General Assembly of EPASOrg. Alan holds an International MBA from Madrid’s leading business school, Instituto de Empresa, as well as a bachelor’s degree from the University of London.

Bringing with him a wealth of business development experience, Phil joined the team in 2010 to head up the business development function in O2 Money. Phil’s expertise, having spent a decade in the financial services industry, is helping O2 Money form the right partnerships with key service providers as the market for the m-Wallet evolves. Before joining Telefonica UK, Phil worked for Tuxedo, Alliance & Leicester and MBNA and had responsibility for commercial contracts, partnerships and strategic alliances.

Biography:
Tom Gregory is responsible for the digital payments strategy at Barclaycard Europe, including NFC/mobile payments, online payments, and adjacent areas in the payments cycle. He was previously head of change at the card company, tasked with overhauling the merchant acquiring, commercial and international lending and issuing business, which included integrating 1.5 million Goldfish card customers into Barclaycard’s operations. Prior to joining the firm he worked at FirstCaribbean Bank in 2003 where he oversaw the merger of Barclays Caribbean and CIBC to create the new entity.

Cashless made real

As the UK payments industry has seen the use of cards triple in the last 10 years, Allister Mitchell, Head of Corporate Card Products at Lloyds Banking Group will explore how consumer behaviour and preferences, today’s economic environment and card payment trends will affect how the prediction of a cashless society can be made real. Allister will also be looking ahead to the London 2012 games and beyond, focussing on the implementation of cashless cards.
Biography:
Allister is responsible for the management and development of corporate card products at Lloyds Banking Group, having joined the Bank in 2010. Over the past year, he has led a strategic review of the Bank’s corporate cards product strategy, to accelerate development of the cards business. He is leading a team tasked with delivering an enhanced card proposition to corporate customers and is managing the alignment of Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB card products and platforms.
Prior to LBG, Allister worked in senior roles across the industry including MasterCard Worldwide, NatWest Bank, Ulster Bank and XO Communications, with engagements in UK, mainland Europe and the US.
Allister has over 17 years’ experience in the cards and payments industry, spanning issuing and acquiring business lines. A native Ulsterman, he is married with four children and balances the demands of work and family with those of a small herd of Angus cattle.

The changing European payments landscape

The payments business generates significant revenues for organisations in the value chain. Given the value at stake, it is essential to not only examine how the payments landscape will develop in the short-, medium- and long-term, but understand how players should respond to both competitive threats and new opportunities.
Biography:
In his role as research manager, Alex Kwiatkowski concentrates on the technologies used by retail and corporate banking institutions in EMEA, with a particular focus on multi-channel interaction (including mobile devices, social media, and video), core systems transformation, BI and analytics, payments and application architecture strategies. Before joining IDC, Alex spent four years as a principal analyst within Ovum's Financial Services Technology practice. Prior to this he worked as a senior manager in Lloyds TSB's Business Delivery team, and was closely involved in major modernisation programs for the core and online banking systems. Between September 2000 and December 2004, Alex was an integral member of Ovum's consulting group, working on client-specific projects for enterprise end users, technology vendors, service providers, and public sector bodies, as well as contributing to several of Ovum’s analyst advisory services. Alex joined Ovum from Vodafone, where he served in a variety of roles between 1995 and 2000.
