American Express acquires Center

Payment card giant American Express has announced will acquire Center, a software company specialising in expense management tools.

American Express says the partnership will enable the two companies to create an expense management platform that will deliver more value across the commercial cards payment process.

This includes managing rewards and automated accounting and reconciliation, while an app will allow employees to manage their expenses.

American Express added that auditing and posting expenses to the general ledger will be automated, estimating that this will reduce time spent on these tasks by finance teams by 90 per cent.

Additionally, the company said that the platform will enable businesses to make sure that spending remains compliant with their company’s spending policy.

The deal is expected to close within the second quarter of 2025.

“As a leader in corporate and small business cards, it is our job to deliver innovative products and services that help customers run their businesses more efficiently,” said Raymond Joabar, group president, global commercial services at American Express. “By integrating Center’s outstanding talent and technology, we can save our customers time and money and strengthen our leadership position in commercial card payments.”
