Bank of America has announced it will acquire UK information security consultancy MDSec Consulting Limited as part of its efforts to strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities.
The transaction, which remains subject to regulatory approval, is expected to complete during the fourth quarter of 2026.
Headquartered in Macclesfield, MDSec employs around 65 cybersecurity specialists and provides technical information security consultancy services.
The acquisition builds on Bank of America's existing presence in the North West of England, where it employs more than 1,400 people in nearby Chester. The bank also operates one of its cyber threat operations centres from the city.
Bank of America said the acquisition forms part of its ongoing investment in cybersecurity capabilities across the UK and globally. The bank serves more than 69 million clients worldwide and operates in more than 35 countries and jurisdictions.
"We have long admired the exceptional ability of the MDSec team and are delighted that Bank of America and its clients will now further benefit from their work,” said Kris Fador, chief information security officer at Bank of America."We look forward to welcoming the MDSec team to Bank of America as we continue to enhance our leading cybersecurity capabilities in the UK and globally."
Last month Bank of America announced it had upgraded its EricaAssist AI platform with generative AI capabilities to help customer service staff resolve client queries more quickly.
Bank of America said the enhancements, which provides contextual guidance in under three seconds, reduce average call times by nearly one minute per interaction while allowing employees to focus on listening to customers and explaining solutions.
