CaixaBank’s tech arm to hire 200 new staff

CaixaBank has announced that its technology subsidiary has plans to hire 200 new staff members. focussing on cloud application development, data analysis and artificial intelligence.

The move will see the bank’s tech arm exceed 1,000 in-house employees.

The new staff, which the bank said would be “mostly young people with technology and scientific degrees”, will be based across CaixaBank Tech’s operational centres in Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.

The new roles will focus on cloud application development, data analysis, and artificial intelligence, with the bank opening various positions for data engineers, data scientists and specialists in machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing.

The bank said that it will incorporate Python, React and Java developers to support the development of hybrid apps, the development of AI, and advanced analytics models and to enhance software applications in financial services.

It added that cybersecurity and cloud experts are also being recruited, as well as specialists in digital marketing, UX and quality assurance engineers.

"Professionals are also being hired for the dedicated digital transformation team, with specialities including agile and scrum methodologies, innovation and workplace transformation," said the bank.

In May, CaixaBank revealed that it was the first financial institution in Spain to launch an app that lets mobiles be used as point-of-sale (POS) devices.

The bank's platform for businesses allows contactless payments to be managed through Android devices without the need of an additional device.

The app is designed to provide similar functionalities to a traditional POS terminal, including the option to send receipts to customers via email or QR code.
