Danske Bank has expanded its partnership with Amazon Web Services to accelerate the rollout of artificial intelligence-powered banking services, modernise its technology infrastructure and increase productivity as part of the lender's Forward '28 strategy.
According to a joint announcement from the companies, the renewed agreement will see the Nordic bank deepen its use of AWS cloud infrastructure to modernise IT systems, strengthen its cloud and data foundations, and improve the way technology is developed and delivered across the organisation. The collaboration is intended to support faster deployment of AI-enabled products while creating a more scalable technology platform.
Frans Woelders, chief operating officer at Danske Bank, said the agreement would give the lender early access to AWS cloud and AI innovations alongside engineering expertise. "We are already seeing the benefits in how we develop the products and services our customers want, and I expect that value to grow further," he said.
According to the companies, a central element of the expanded partnership is a broader co-innovation programme, building on previous work to migrate the bank's applications to the cloud. The same approach is now being applied to generative AI initiatives, including exception-based services, with reusable AI components designed to reduce development times and support governed deployment across the organisation.
Tanuja Randery, vice president and managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at AWS, said the first phase of the relationship had focused on establishing cloud and data foundations. "With this extended partnership, we'll bring the choice, security, and scale of Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore to power AI-enabled banking services," she said, adding that the bank would gain access to hundreds of AI models, enterprise-grade data protection and a managed platform capable of supporting deployments from experimentation through to production.
According to the announcement, customers are expected to benefit from faster delivery of new features for mobile and online banking, stronger resilience across digital services and more personalised experiences enabled by data and AI.
Employees are expected to gain from improved development capabilities and higher technology delivery throughput, while the upgraded platform supports Danske Bank's ambition to become a leading AI-focused bank in the Nordic region.
