eBay becomes first e-commerce company to sell NFTs

eBay has become the first e-commerce platform to sell non-fungible tokens (NFTs.)

The company has introduced the sale of the digital tokens for online collectibles, including trading cards, images, or video clips, according to a report by Reuters.

NFTs are units of data, or virtual assets that are stored on a blockchain ledger. They can come in many different formats, including digital artwork and photographs.

eBay told Reuters that an NFT inventory will be provided to sellers who meet its standards.

The company added that users can expect to see programmes, policies and tools in future that will let them buy and sell NFTs across a broader range of categories.
"In the coming months, eBay will add new capabilities that bring blockchain-driven collectibles to our platform," senior vice president and general manager for eBay's North America market, Jordan Sweetnam, told the news agency.

Last week the online marketplace said it was open to the possibility of accepting cryptocurrencies as a form of payment in the future.
