European banks to experience payment delays amidst SEPA upgrade

Payments made within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) are set to be disrupted this Friday and over the weekend for a planned maintenance window.

The maintenance upgrade is part of plans to make regulatory changes to the SEPA Scheme Rulebook.

The Bank of Ireland (BoI) told customers that payments made within the SEPA after 2.30pm on Friday 15 March to payees at other banks would not arrive in their accounts before Monday 18 March.

It said that incoming SEPA payments to the BoI accounts may also be delayed until next Monday.

“This is a planned maintenance window to make regulatory changes to the SEPA Scheme Rulebook,” said the bank. “It affects all SEPA member banks. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
