HSBC app down for thousands of customers

Thousands of HSBC mobile banking users in the UK reported issues with the app on Friday morning.

According to Downdetector, which publishes company outages on a graph displaying problem reports submitted over a 24-hour period, at 9 o’clock over four thousand customers were experiencing issues with their online banking account.

“We understand some customers are having trouble accessing banking services as usual right now,” wrote HSBC on X. “We're investigating this as a matter of urgency and will share an update as soon as possible.”

HSBC previously announced plans to close 114 branches in the UK this year after permanently shutting around 69 locations in 2022.

The bank recently recorded a more than doubling of pre-tax profits to $7.7 billion in its third quarter ended 30 September.

However, while the figure eclipsed profits before tax of $3.2 billion in the same quarter of 2022, it is understood to have fallen short of analyst forecasts of $8.1 billion.
