HSBC boosts GPS business with hire of BofA's Tuozzolo

HSBC has announced the hire of Melissa Tuozzolo as the new global head of client service for its global payments solutions (GPS) business.

Tuozzolo joins from Bank of America where she spent one year as its head of international payments. Prior to that she spent over a decade at Citi across two spells at the bank. The move represents a return to HSBC for the executive, who previously spent just under three years in its North American business.

The appointment was announced in a letter to staff by global head of GPS Manish Kohli, with Tuozzolo set to “develop and implement a globally consistent, high quality, risk aware client service culture which will deliver superior post-sales support to CMB and GBM clients; across the full range of GPS products and across service teams on and offshore.”

Tuozzolo will return to HSBC in September under Kohli and will be based in New York.

Kohli added: “I have had the opportunity previously to work with Melissa and know that she has an incredibly strong emphasis on client centricity, innovation and commercialisation and look forward to seeing her bring this to HSBC.”

The British bank is currently in a transition phase as it looks to pivot more towards a number of Asian markets, and has triggered planned sales of its businesses in Greece, Russia and Canada.

HSBC earlier this month announced plans to wind down its wealth and personal banking business in New Zealand and separately announced new terms for the sale of its French retail banking business to My Money Group – a deal which has been in limbo since mid-2021.
