Halifax launches solar panel scheme

Halifax has partnered with Effective Home to source and install solar panels as part of a new scheme.

Through the building society’s Green Living Hub, customers can have their home assessed for solar panel suitability which includes estimated installation costs and energy bill savings.

Eligible Halifax mortgage customers will also be able to access £500 cashback towards the cost through Halifax’s existing Green Living Reward offer.

Halifax claims that solar panels can save customers between £500 and £700 a year. The company added that solar panels can improve the EPC rating of a home and properties with the highest energy ratings may be worth up to £40,000 more on average.

Home buyers are often more willing to pay a premium for houses that are more energy efficient. Halifax said that the UK government may change EPC standards in the future as it takes steps to reach net zero by 2050.

“Solar panels have become an increasingly common sight on the roofs of UK homes and for good reason – harnessing renewable solar power, reducing energy bills and cutting carbon emissions, they’re a great sustainable option for a more energy efficient home,” said Andrew Asaam, Homes Director at Halifax. “Our partnership with Effective Home supports people with solar panel installation from start to finish, so even more people can take advantage of the benefits to having a ‘greener’ home and cheaper bills”
