ING expands UK transaction services team with new appointments

ING has strengthened its UK Transaction Services team with a series of senior appointments as the bank looks to build out its capabilities in cash and liquidity management, trade finance and working capital solutions.

The expansion is part of ING’s wider strategy to position Transaction Services as a key growth driver for its wholesale banking business, enhancing support for UK corporate and non‑bank financial institution clients and their subsidiaries across the bank’s global network.

ING’s UK Transaction Services unit now comprises eight specialists across sales, account management and correspondent banking.

Among the new hires, Hayden Kaya has joined as a director in the Transaction Services team. He brings more than a decade of experience across commercial, wholesale and retail banking, and joins from Lloyds Banking Group, where he helped shape the Global Transaction Bank’s payments strategy and led sector‑focused sales teams advising some of the UK’s largest corporates. ING said his appointment will support the continued expansion of its payments and cash management franchise for global corporate clients.

Ali Afzal has joined as a trade and working capital specialist, bringing over ten years of product and sales origination experience from Mizuho Bank and Lloyds. His background spans the full trade finance product suite across a global corporate client base, positioning him to deliver client‑focused working capital solutions.

ING has also appointed Vanessa Herbert as a director in the Transaction Services team with responsibility for growing the bank’s commercial Trade FX offering. Herbert brings more than 20 years of FX experience across banks and specialist FX payments providers, which ING said will strengthen its ability to provide tailored Trade FX solutions to customers across Europe.

The expansion includes two internal moves from ING’s Insurance Sector Finance team. Director Olive Yu joins the UK Transaction Services business after more than 17 years with the bank, and will focus on business development in the life and non‑life (re)insurance market, particularly in the US, Bermuda and Europe, where obligations can be supported by Transaction Services products such as bank guarantees and standby letters of credit.

Vice president Ian Tofts has also transferred into the UK Transaction Services team. He brings more than 25 years of banking experience across front‑office roles, client engagement, portfolio and transaction management, loan agency and banking operations.

Paul Turnbull, head of Transaction Services sales UK at ING, said the appointments are designed to deepen client engagement and expand the bank’s capabilities in the market.

“Expanding our UK Transaction Services team is about bringing expertise closer to our clients,” he said. “This enables more meaningful conversations, better customer outcomes, and greater visibility of ING’s global capabilities at a local level.

“Transaction Services is a cornerstone of our growth strategy, and this expansion reinforces our ambition to be proactive and highly visible in the market.”
