Lloyds Bank has announced the appointment of Ron van Kemenade as its new group chief operating officer.
Following regulatory approval from Dutch bank ING, where he currently serves as chief technology officer, van Kemenade will join Lloyds in 2023.
Charlie Nunn, group chief executive at Lloyds Banking Group said: “This is a pivotal role for our business given the pace of tech innovation and the importance of technology and data as a key enabler to helping us deliver our long-term growth strategy.”
Nunn added: “Ron brings a wealth of experience in business transformation and I’m excited that we've found someone who is so passionate about our purpose and using technology to deliver great experiences for our customers.”
Beyond his role as ING’s first chief technology officer, van Kemenade has over 20 years’ experience in the finance sector.
“Lloyds Banking Group plays an important role in communities up and down the UK and I’m ready to add my energy and play my part in helping Britain prosper,” van Kemenade said.
The appointment of van Kemenade follows Lloyd’s having ‘shaken up’ its executive committee over the summer with three new hires.
At the time, Nunn said: ““All three of the new joiners bring deep experience of banking and their success in transforming and growing franchises at other leading financial institutions will benefit us and our clients and I look forward to welcoming them.”
