Mark Fairless promoted to CEO at ClearBank

ClearBank has promoted its current chief financial officer Mark Fairless to chief executive.

Fairless joined ClearBank in January 2023 and has also served as group board member.

ClearBank said that Fairless, who joined the company in January 2023, has been “instrumental” in implementing the business’s long-term strategy, driving optimisation, and positioning it for scalable growth.

Prior to joining Clearbank, Fairless was chief financial officer of international savings and investments firm M&G Heritage. He has also held senior positions at Santander UK and Barclays Investment Bank.

Fairless takes on his new role from ClearBank’s co-founder and former chief executive, Charles McManus.

ClearBank said that McManus will step away from the daily running of the bank but will retain his role on the ClearBank group board as well as remaining as co-chair of the Innovate Finance Unicorn Council.

McManus co-founded ClearBank in 2015, growing the business to serve over 250 customers across the UK and Europe.

“With our European banking licence in place and plans in place to expand into additional markets, we are excited to enter a new chapter at ClearBank under Mark’s leadership,” said Peter Herbert, group chair of ClearBank. “Mark’s deep understanding of our business, coupled with his strategic vision, makes him the ideal person to build on our foundations and guide ClearBank towards even greater success.”
