Mastercard partners with PrestaShop on new payment service

Mastercard has partnered with e-commerce platform PrestaShop to launch a new service that aims to simply the online payment experience.

Mastercard said Click to Pay enables secure payments and streamlined transactions without the need for passwords or card details.

All payment information is securely centralised in a single profile, which Mastercard claims facilitates easier management of payment methods.

Click to Pay is based on EMVCo standards, which have been adopted by over 80 countries and supported by all major bank card networks.

Mastercard added that the new service enhances security through "tokenisation”, which turns card details into characters known as a “token” to ensure personal information is not exposed during transactions.

The service will be available to merchants based in France, Spain, Italy and the UK who currently use the PrestaShop platform.

Mastercard said the service will be extended to other European and international markets.

"With Click to Pay, we are delivering a tangible response to consumer and merchant demands for faster and safer transactions,” said Valerie Nowak, executive vice president, product and innovation at Mastercard Europe. “This technology represents a significant step forward in the future of digital payments, where efficiency and security go hand in hand.”
