Revolut’s Storonsky wants company to ‘expand into non-banking tech’

Nik Storonsky, Revolut’s chief executive and co-founder, said Friday that the digital banking giant intends to develop a suite of technology products that go beyond banking operations, according to Reuters.

Speaking at the Wave by Venmo forum in Turin, attended by the newswire, Storonsky reportedly said that his company has developed proprietary AI models trained on the “30 to 40 million transactions taking place every day” in a similar manner to large language models.

His long-term goal is for Revolut to become as large as the biggest US technology companies, he added.

It was Storonsky’s second revelation of the week. On Thursday, he told Bloomberg TV that Revolut had “always” planned to list primarily on the New York Stock Exchange, “given the deep liquidity of the US market”.

The news confirms statements made by the chief executive last month when he told Les Echoes that he intended to primarily list in the US while leaving the door open for a dual listing in the UK.

In the Bloomberg interview, he added that Revolut intends to “dominate” the US market through further expansion.

“Our offering will be at par with Amex or JPMorgan Chase,” Storonsky said. Revolut received conditional approval for a US banking licence from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in September.

The bank’s rapid expansion has come with teething problems in previous markets. In 2025, the European Central Bank temporarily curbed Revolut’s ability to launch new products in the region after identifying shortcomings in its approval process.

The same year, it faced a record €3.5 million fine from the Lithuanian central bank over shortcomings in its transaction monitoring controls, though the company said the investigation found no confirmed incidents of money laundering.
