Senior Barclays technology banker joins Citi

A senior technology banker at Barclays has left the UK-based bank to join US rival Citigroup.

According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, Ed Wehle, who was hired as managing director and head of global technology services banking in 2018, will join Citi as its global head of technology services.

The internal memo at Citi came from Philip Drury, global head of technology and communications banking, capital markets & advisory, who said: "Technology services complements Citi’s unparalleled global client position, and Ed will work closely with partners in Asia, EMEA and Latin America,"

Wehle has a career of nearly three decades in investment banking, and was previously head of global technology services at Deutsche Bank.

The move represents something of a homecoming for Wehle who spent his entire career up to 2017 at Citi, joining Salomon Brothers in 1994 before it was acquired by Citigroup. At the bank he most recently served as head of global services prior to his departure in 2017.

Wehle becomes the latest senior figure to depart Barclays amid an exodus at the bank. Reuters earlier this week reported that at least seven top technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) bankers have resigned from Barclays to join UBS Group in the US, following three US-based bankers who made the same move in April.
