London-headquartered Standard Chartered is expanding its foreign exchange (FX) API service by launching on Temenos' partner ecosystem.
The Temenos Exchange is made up of a range of tech partners offering FinTech services, including cards, digital identity, payments, RegTech, person al finance management, origination, and sustainability services.
The new partnership will integrate the bank's FX execution settlement capabilities, enabled by the Standard Chartered Aggregated Liquidity Engine (SCALE), with core banking and payments technology from Temenos.
The companies said that financial institutions (FIs) on the exchange will be able to implement the bank’s FX services more efficiency with fewer requirements on technology resources.
The API service is particularly relevant to retail banks, wealth managers, and payment providers handling low-value or high-volume transactions that sit outside their treasury function.
It will enable FIs to price services across more than 130 currencies and 5,000 currency pairs while managing exposure risks to FX market volatility.
When combined with Temenos Payment Hub, the integration will allow firms to consolidate the SCALE FX service with other domestic and international payment rails on a single platform, connecting multiple payment sources, channels, clearing networks, and distribution services.
The move comes as research from FXC Intelligence shows that the cross border payments market is projected to grow from $194 trillion to reach $320 trillion by 2032.
"Being a part of the Temenos Exchange is testament to our continuing commitment to deepen our relationship with financial institutions, with the goal of accelerating their journey in achieving FX centralisation and supporting them in meeting their clients’ transaction needs through differentiated solutions that raises the bar on efficiency and accessibility," said Janet Thomas, global head of strategic partnerships, corporate & investing banking.
Standard Chartered recently launched an AI-powered video column for clients in Asia as it seeks to provide better insights on the FX market.
Called ‘Standard Chartered wealth management FX intelligent expert’, the column uses advanced AI technology deployed in collaboration with the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).
The new feature draws on insights from the bank's Daily Market Navigator, a market publication produced by its global chief investment office.
It features an AI-driven content summarisation, automatically converting the synthesised insights into a one-minute video with voiceover and relevant images and translating the material when necessary.
The service is already available in mainland China and will be extended to Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan in the coming months.
