Wise shares fall 3% after CFO announces 2024 departure

Shares in Wise have slipped by around three per cent today after chief financial officer Matthew Briers announced his departure from the company in 2024 to recuperate from a biking accident.

The move will leave the FinTech without two key execs in the year ahead following news that chief executive Kristo Käärmann will go on paternity leave from September.

“Wise will likely have many CFOs in its first century and this is simply me starting the process of handing over the reins to the next one,” Briers said. “But some of you may know that a year ago I returned back to work at Wise after a quite horrible accident where I went under the wheels of a bus, and so, with this in mind, my focus will shift to making a full recovery."

The company said the search for a new CFO will begin with immediate effect.

Wise recently reported a revenue jump of over 50 per cent year on year to a total of almost £186 million.

“In the three months to 30 June 2022 we helped 5 million active customers move more than £24 billion across borders, a 49 per cent increase on last year,” Käärmann said at the time.
