Axis Bank launches India’s first numberless credit card

Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, has partnered with Fibe to launch India’s first numberless credit card.

The bank said that this provides an added level of security as there is no card number or expiry date printed on the card, adding that this will reduce the risk of identity theft and unauthorised access to a customer’s account.

Users will be able to find their credit card details on the accompanying app, which Axis Bank said gives them control over their account.

The card is powered by RuPay and will be accepted in all stores and digital platforms. Axis Bank said that the card will be available to its own customers as well as Fibe’s exsisting 2.1 million customers.

Sanjeev Moghe, president and head - cards and payments at Axis Bank, said that the bank was committed to driving access to formal credit in India and would continue to partner with firms who could offer them the opportunity to serve more customers.

He added: “This numberless Axis Bank card will prioritize the security of our customers while offering a robust financial solution that empowers the smart and ambitious youth of our nation. Our overarching banking strategy of being connected aims to foster inclusivity and enhance accessibility for the diverse and growing consumer segment."
