Barclays has earmarked a further 18 of its bank branches for closure before the end of 2022.
The additions bring the bank’s total sites shuttered in 2022 to 178.
Sites up for closure between now and the end of the year include ones situated in Alfreton, Scotland, Beeston, Nottinghamshire, and Blackheath, London.
A spokesperson for Barclays told Which? that more of its customers were conducting their banking activities digitally, with less than 10 per cent of transactions being done in person.
They added: “We will always give 12 weeks’ notice of any branch closures, explaining the rationale for the decision, as well as highlighting alternative branches and ways to bank.
“This includes working with the local community to find different, more flexible ways for our colleagues to continue to provide local banking support, such as through pop-up presences.”
Which? has been following bank branch closures in the UK since 2015. Barclays is the bank which has reduced its branches the most during this time – with total closures set to hit 938 by the end of 2022.
