ClearBank Europe has become the first Dutch credit institution to complete notification under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), enabling it to operate as a crypto-asset service provider and expand into digital currency infrastructure.
The bank confirmed it has received regulatory approval from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets, allowing it to offer digital asset services across Europe as a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP).
The move marks ClearBank Europe’s entry into regulated digital asset clearing, part of its wider strategy to integrate blockchain-based payments within traditional banking systems.
With its new CASP status, ClearBank Europe said it plans to roll out cryptocurrency FinTech Circle’s Mint platform to provide clients with access to stablecoins including Euro Coin and USD Coin. The tool enables customers to convert between fiat currencies and digital assets within a regulated banking environment.
The initiative is designed to create a direct link between traditional payment rails and blockchain networks, which ClearBank Europe said will support faster cross-border payments and more efficient settlement.
ClearBank Europe said the launch forms part of a broader group-wide digital assets strategy focused on bridging traditional banking services and emerging digital currency ecosystems.
Tristan Kirchner, chief executive of ClearBank Europe, said becoming a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA allows the bank to bring digital asset capabilities into a regulated clearing environment and provide new ways of moving money across borders.
“This is a significant step forward for both ClearBank Europe and our clients, as digital assets become an increasingly important layer of payments infrastructure,” he added. “As digital assets become more embedded in financial infrastructure, we are excited to play a leading role in that transition as we continue to innovate to meet evolving client needs.”
In the UK, parent company ClearBank previously expanded its partnership with Coinbase to support a savings account offering linked to digital asset services, with eligible customer funds protected under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
