Georgia’s largest banks to modernise operations through new partnership

The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has announced it will modernise treasury and financial markets infrastructure across the country’s banking sector.

Through the new initiative five of Georgia’s largest commercial banks Bank of Georgia, TBC Bank, Liberty Bank, Terabank, and Basisbank, will adopt the Nasdaq Calypso platform through a shared infrastructure model covering the full front-to-back trade lifecycle.

NBG said the programme forms part of the Georgian Market Advancement Program (GMAP), coordinated with the Georgian Financial Markets Treasuries' Association (GFMTA), and aims to strengthen the country’s capital markets.

According to Nasdaq, Georgia’s banking sector has seen double-digit growth over the past five years, with total assets approaching $38 billion. The shared platform is intended to help banks support more complex treasury operations, improve risk management, and meet growing regulatory requirements without each institution deploying separate infrastructure.

The shared model will operate from a centralised platform, with each bank using its own segregated environment while benefiting from common reporting, workflows, market data, and governance capabilities.

The platform will support the full trade lifecycle, including front-office deal capture and pricing, middle-office risk management and compliance, back-office settlement, accounting, and financial reporting.

Nasdaq said the shared infrastructure will also give the National Bank of Georgia greater visibility into treasury exposures, liquidity positions, and systemic risk, while supporting compliance with international standards such as ISO 20022.

"Modernising Georgia's treasury infrastructure is a strategic priority for the National Bank of Georgia and a critical step in the continued development of our financial system,” said Natia Turnava, governor of the National Bank of Georgia. “By bringing the country's five largest commercial banks onto a common, internationally recognized platform, we are raising the standard of risk management, regulatory oversight, and operational resilience across the sector."
