NatWest ‘first UK bank’ to enable Mastercard Click to Pay

NatWest has said it is the first bank in the UK to enable Click to Pay for all of its customers using a Mastercard debit card.

Click to Pay is a digital wallet for any device, which allows users to create a single profile where they can store multiple payment cards.

The bank says it has worked with Mastercard, which currently issues around one in three consumer debit cards in the UK, to automatically register customers, with all those using a NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland or Ulster Bank Mastercard already registered for the service.

Those using the service won’t need to enter their payment details and will be “protected by multiple layers of security”, said the bank.

The move comes as fraudsters use increasingly sophisticated methods to scam online shoppers.

“Keeping our customers safe when shopping online is paramount," said Salim Secretary, head of payment schemes, partnerships and commercial, NatWest. "Click to Pay combines advanced security with speed and convenience."

He continued: "With this in mind, we’ve made it as easy as possible for customers to start using Click to Pay - there is no sign up required and the service can be used on any site with the Click to Pay logo.”

Customers with a NatWest credit card will have Click to Pay enabled in the next few months.
