OpenAI launches ChatGPT for financial services

OpenAI has announced the release of its latest specialised professional solution, ChatGPT for Financial Services, which combines financial data with its most advanced GPT-6 Astra model.

The tool is designed to help teams within financial services to develop research, financial models, and customised client materials.

It has built-in financial data from a variety of partners, OpenAI said, including PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase.

This data is indexed and hosted on OpenAI’s servers, which it says will allow the model to be more accurate than if it was accessing the data from elsewhere as well as enabling new features including granular citations

The bot’s capabilities have been shaped by OpenAI’s design partnership with Morgan Stanley and Evercore, which the company said enabled it to determine what it could offer that would provide the most value for bankers.

At launch, the model will focus on investment banking and equity research. OpenAI said that reliable access to data and high-quality artifact creation were the largest “pain points” for teams working in these areas.

On the company’s website, it provides five initial examples of work that ChatGPT for Financial Services could help with. These are value analysis, LBO modelling, buyer screening, earnings analysis, pitchbook preparation.

The tool also allows administrators to publish templates for Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, which can then be used as the basis for documents it creates.

Commenting on the launch, a spokesperson from Morgan Stanley said: “The promise of frontier research becomes real when it helps our people do the work that matters for our clients. We’re working alongside OpenAI to bring that intelligence into how we research companies, develop analysis, and prepare advice.

“We can test ideas together and help shape how the technology develops. For our firm, that means a product increasingly informed by our people, our methods, and the work that matters to our clients.”

The bot is part of the company’s ChatGPT Work offering, which provides specialised wrappers over its AI models focused on specific professions. It already offers tools for those in roles including sales, marketing, data analytics and engineering.
