Bank of America (BoA) announced the appointment of two new board members on Wednesday, with Jim Fitterling and Bill Thomas joining effective immediately.
Fitterling currently serves as the executive chairman of chemicals giant Dow Inc, having previously worked in a variety of leadership positions with the company. He was Dow’s chief executive from 2018 to 2026, and prior to this served as its president and chief operating officer, spending a total of more than 40 years with the company.
During his tenure as Dow’s chief executive, BoA said, Fitterling led the company’s transformation towards higher-growth markets driven by customer needs and innovation while overseeing significant capital-intensive international operations, global supply chains and exposure to cyclical markets.
Thomas served as global chairman and chief executive of big four accounting and professional services firm KPMG International from 2017 to 2026. In this role, he led the company’s network of 265,000 professionals across 143 countries. Prior to this, Thomas was chair of KMPG’s Americas region from 2014 to 2017, and chief executive and senior partner of KMPG in Canada from 2009 to 2016.
During his tenure as global chair and chief executive, Thomas led the organisation through what BoA called a period of significant transformation and growth, aligning member firms behind strategic priorities, refreshing its governance and overseeing a multibillion-dollar investment programme focused in part on technology and AI capabilities.
Both men have also served on a variety of membership bodies, including the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council.
The pair will replace two former board members who stepped down earlier this year after reaching the retirement age of 75, Pierre de Weck and Linda Hudson.
