Tribe Payments targets Asia expansion with new office

Digital payments FinTech Tribe Payments has announced the opening of a new office in Singapore as the company looks to continue its expansion across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

Founded in 2018 as an issuer and acquirer processor, Tribe is a London-headquartered B2B FinTech business that seeks to provide the back-end technology powering the app-based banking and payments services of banks and financial technology companies.

The move comes after the firm recently announced a period of growth across Europe and Asia, with the business reporting 73 per cent revenue growth between 2022 to 2023.

As Tribe seeks to continue expanding its client base in the APAC region, the new office in Singapore will serve as a hub.

Former chief business development officer and managing director Asia Pacific at global payment FinTech EEedenBull Matt Weir has been appointed as general manager overseeing the Asia Pacific region.

Weir brings extensive FinTech experience in both issuing and acquiring sides of the industry, and previously held senior roles at a range of firms including JCB, Visa, and Euronet, and at FinTech companies such as Praemium.

Commenting on his new role, Weir said: “I am delighted to join the Tribe team and to have the privileged position of leading the company’s launch and expansion into the APAC region. The team has built and developed a truly unique cloud-based, API-driven proprietary payments platform, offering world-class digital solutions for issuers, acquirers, and merchant clients.”

Alex Reddish, head of market expansion at Tribe Payments, said the new appointment would help the business “seamlessly tap into” the fast-growing APAC market.
