40% of Brits ‘want banks to provide environmental tracking tools’

New research by Tink has found that around 40 per cent of Brits want their banks to provide tools which track their environmental impact.

The Open Banking platform, which surveyed around 2,000 consumers and 113 senior banking execs, also found that 37 per cent would like their bank to do more to help them reduce their environmental impact and 32 per cent want their bank to provide an overview of their CO2 emissions.

Despite these findings, only 17 per cent reported use of sustainability tools where available. Tink said that this discrepancy could relate to findings from its survey of banking executives, which revealed that only 24 per cent are offering customers tools to help them understand their carbon footprint based on their spending.

“It’s great to see such high numbers of customers wanting their banks to help them to make more sustainable choices, and even better to see that many banks are already starting to deliver on this demand,” said Tasha Chouhan, UK & IE banking director at Tink.

She continued: “For the forward-thinking banks who are already offering carbon tracking tools, now is the time to ramp up customer engagement to ensure people know how to easily access these tools.”

Another recent survey by Tink found that almost a quarter of Brits are financially vulnerable.
