Worldline has been granted Payment Institution Authorisation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
The French payment provider said the new licence will allow it to consolidate all merchant customer-related activities and significantly invest in its offering for UK customers.
The company currently holds a temporary permission regime which is due to expire before the end of 2023. Worldline said the new licence will ensure it remains compliant and provide continuity for its customers.
Lee Jones, chief executive of Worldline Merchant Services UK, said: “Worldline is committed to playing an important role in the post-Brexit payments landscape of the UK and I am proud that we have been granted our new licence, which guarantees an even stronger presence in the UK market.
“Paramount for our local service scope and excellence, it sets us apart from many international competitors by bolstering our presence and enhancing our service capabilities, while providing more choice for UK merchants.”
Worldline added that the new licence will also enhance its capability to process domestic payments. The company said it will increase its team in the UK to improve authorisation rates.
