Hokuhoku Financial Group has partnered with Fujitsu to trial the use of generative AI for banking operations at Hokuriku Bank and Hokkaido Bank.
Fujitsu said the trials will involve using a conversational AI module to respond to internal enquires, generate and check various business documents, and create programmes. The company added that generative AI could have an even wider range of uses in banking, including explaining inquiries about different products, the clarification of banking rules and detecting bugs in systems.
The company says that its generative AI technology does not need Hokuhoku to set up a specific testing environment for the trials.
It said that the trials will last until the end of October, with banks finding “further use cases for generative AI” in their business depending on the results of the trials.
Several other banks have also recently been testing the use of generative AI for their operations. This includes NatWest Group, which has already assessed around 140 different use cases, and Deutsche Bank which in late 2022 announced a high-profile multi-year innovation partnership with computing giant Nvidia.
