JetBlue launches Venmo payment option

Money transfer app Venmo has partnered with US airline JetBlue to offer customers secure payment options when booking flights directly with JetBlue online.

The service is currently available on the airline’s website and will be rolled out to its mobile app in the coming months.

Through the service, US customers can use their Venmo balance or linked bank accounts, debit or credit cards to book their travel.

JetBlue said the partnership is one of the ways in which it is using digital technology to help customers personalise and simplify their journeys, adding that the new service will make the experience of booking flights easier and more convenient.

In September 2024, the JetBlue mobile app introduced additional features including a countdown to boarding on phone lock screens, as well as more easily accessible gate information.

“Travel is not just about the destination, but the people you go with and how you share the experience,” said John Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of consumer, at PayPal, which is the parent company of Venmo. “The added ability to pay with Venmo for flights on JetBlue and manage travel costs during the trip through groups helps solve the pain points of shared expenses from the time of booking to returning home.”

Last month, European airline Ryanair announced the rollout of Pay by Bank App on its website.
Pay by Bank is an Open Banking-driven online payment option which allows consumers to pay with an “account-to-account” method, rather than paying via a debit or credit card.
