Jet Bank has launched as Albania’s first fully digital bank, backed by an AI-native banking operating system.
The bank’s initial offerings will include multi-currency current accounts, savings accounts, and term deposits as well as digital and physical debit cards. Credit cards and loans are expected to be introduced in the coming months, with further products and services to follow.
In addition, the bank said it is designed to expand and provide conversational and agentic AI capabilities in the near future.
There has been strong pre-launch demand for Jet, which reported more than 75,000 people joining its waiting list. Registered users will now receive invitations to activate their accounts on a rolling basis, it said.
The bank received a greenfield banking licence from Albania’s central bank in March after a six-month buildout. Software company Backbase provided the operating system that serves as the backbone of the bank, which it said helped eliminate the complexity of launching and running a modern bank without any inherited code.
Jet Bank chief executive Fatbardha Rino described the launch as an important step in the modernization of Albania's banking landscape.
"Jet Bank chose to launch in Albania because we believe in the country's potential, its people, entrepreneurs, and future,” she said. “We are building a bank designed around simplicity, accessibility, and technology, with the goal of giving our customers back time and freedom in managing their finances. Our partnership with Backbase has enabled us to bring that bank to market in a matter of months and to keep improving it for our customers.”
