UAE central bank launches instant payments platform

Al Etihad Payments (AEP), a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has announced the launch of an instant payments platform.

Aani enables financial institutions and payment service providers to offer consumers, businesses, corporates, and government entities what the organisation describes as an “unparalleled digital payment experience”, with the ability to process transactions “instantly and securely” 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The central bank’s subsidiary said the launch of Aani is a key initiative under its Financial Infrastructure Transformation programme and signals a “new era of seamless, secure, and instant digital payments.”

"The launch of Aani exemplifies our unwavering commitment to digitise the economy and advance the financial sector, aligning with our visionary leadership's aspirations and the CBUAE’s objectives,” said AEP chairman Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri. “Aani is not just a payment platform; it represents a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and financial inclusion.”

Al Dhaheri added that AEP remains dedicated to “fostering an ecosystem that encourages innovation, competition, and growth, benefiting the entire financial system."
